Construction Worker Fatally Hit Along Indian Head Highway: Police

A road construction worker was hit and killed while on the job along Indian Head Highway. The driver hit some traffic cones and a vehicle.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A road construction worker was fatally hit by a driver traveling along northbound Indian Head Highway and Kerby Hill Road in Fort Washington.

Huerta Melendez, 56, of Montgomery Village, was hit and killed after the driver struck several traffic cones. Melendez was standing in a closed-off section of the highway. The driver then hit a median and a second vehicle.

Melendez was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver was taken to the hospital with injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening. The second driver wasn't injured, according to the Prince George's County Police Department.
