Daughter, Father Honored For Helping Driver Having Medical Emergency In Prince George's

A father-daughter duo were honored for their efforts in helping a driver suffering a medical emergency.

BOWIE, MD — A father and his 8th grade daughter have been honored by the city of Bowie for lifesaving measures they took in assisting a driver in the throes of a medical emergency.

Mariner Middle School eighth grader Miranda Schmidt and her father Martin Schmidt were heading home from a concert in Columbia when they spied someone driving erratically, according to Bowie Police Department Chief John Nesky. They called 911 and followed the vehicle, keeping an eye on the driver from a safe distance, until help arrived.

Responders ascertained the driver was having a diabetic episode, symptoms of which can sometimes mirror those of an intoxicated driver, Nesky told the Cape Gazette.
