Director 'Stepping Down' From PGCPS Position After 10K Kids Without A Bus

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — After school employees spent the weekend scrambling to assign buses to more than 10,000 students who started the school year last week without transportation, the district let go of its transportation director.

On Sunday, Prince George's school officials announced that the backlog of students still waiting for school bus assignments had been resolved, Patch reported previously.

School leadership also announced that Keba Baldwin, director of transportation for PGCPS, would be "stepping down" from his position.

"The district thanks Mr. Baldwin for his service and contributions to PGCPS and its transportation operations. He will work with district leadership to support an orderly transition," the district stated.

Dr. Mark Fossett, a former chief operating officer for PGCPS, will serve as acting director of rransportation and lead a new transportation transition team.

Fossett and the transition team will guide the district as it continues to stabilize transportation services, strengthen customer service and address vacancies within the department. The transition structure will remain in place as PGCPS aims to permanently fill transportation vacancies during the fall semester.

“This is about more than responding to the challenges of one week,” said Prince George's County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Shawn Joseph. “It is about building the systems, capacity and culture necessary to provide families with the reliable service they deserve. We resolved the immediate backlog. Now we must use what we have learned to build a stronger transportation operation for the future.”
