Dog Day Celebrated With Pet-Friendly Events At National Harbor

OXON HILL, MD — National Harbor invited residents to take their puppies out on the town. The mixed-use development will celebrate National Dog Day on Aug. 26 with pooch performances, experiences and discounts.

The events start with the UniverSoul Circus. The group has daily shows through Sept. 4. The circus pups will display their skills on dog day. These canines, which were on "America’s Got Talent," will be available for a meet and greet around 11 a.m. at 150 National Plaza.

All pooches can ride The Capital Wheel for free with their humans. Owners must buy an adult ticket. Patrons can get $5 off when they donate a can of dog food. There is a limit of two discounts per transaction. The Flight Deck beneath the Ferris wheel will have yappy hour and offer puppy swag bags, treats and beer specials.

The Westin National Harbor allows two pets of 40 lbs or less to stay for $30 per night. The set-up comes with a bowl, a mat and a bed for the furry friends. The hotel also has an outdoor dining area that welcomes pooches.

For $200 per stay, two animals of any size can visit The Residence Inn National Harbor. The AC Hotel National Harbor similarly lets one pet of any weight spend the night for $100 per stay.

Boating in D.C. at National Harbor has several watercraft that are dog friendly. The company has a few lifejackets for pooches. Renters should bring their own if they have one.

Some National Harbor retailers also sell puppy merchandise. Carhartt carries doggie blankets and coats.
