Driver Ejected From Vehicle, Caught By Police In PG County: Cops

Police believe drugs and/or alcohol may have contributed to the single-vehicle crash.

FORESTVILLE, MD -- A man was thrown from his vehicle after crashing into a utility pole, and then he tried to flee but was apprehended by police officers who think he may have been on something, police say.

Maryland State Police troopers responded to southbound Crain Highway south of Route 197 shortly before 7:30 a.m. Saturday to a report of a single-vehicle crash, according to a report from MSP.

Police say a Chevrolet Equinox left the roadway and crashed into a utility pole, ejecting a 30-year-old man who was driving the car, the report states.

"The driver attempted to flee the scene, but was apprehended by officers from the Bowie Police Department," it reads. "The passenger of the vehicle, a 23-year-old man, suffered a severe leg injury."

The driver and passenger were taken to the hospital. No other vehicles were involved.

Police believe that drugs and/or alcohol may have contributed to the crash, which shut down Crain Highway for a little more than an hour. No charges have been filed yet, but the investigation is ongoing.
