PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — An off-duty D.C. police officer was hit by an SUV while walking in the parking lot of a shopping center Friday at about 10:40 a.m. Kenneth Daniels, an officer in the violent crime suppression unit, had left the Vista Gardens Marketplace located in the 10500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Highway in Prince George’s County and was walking through the parking lot with his groceries.
A witness alerted nearby officers who began to administer first aid. Daniels initially was listed in critical but stable condition by that afternoon, according to the Prince George's County Police Department.
The driver did not remain on the scene, but after a description of the vehicle was broadcast to all officers, within a few minutes the SUV was seen returning to the parking lot where officers stopped the driver who is now cooperating with investigators, the police department noted.
