Firefighter Hurt in Blaze at Vacant House

A Prince George's County firefighter was treated at a hospital for an injury after a fire in Fairmont Heights.

A Prince George’s County firefighter/medic was injured Wednesday morning while battling a house fire in the 6200 block of Kolb Street in Fairmont Heights.

The department’s blog says Fire/EMS units arrived about 7 a.m. to find smoke coming from the house and a fire in the kitchen area.

The fire was quickly brought under control and while doing so a firefighter suffered an arm injury. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was treated and released, officials said.

The house was vacant and the cause of the fire is undetermined. Damage is estimated at $20,000.

Residents are encouraged to call 911 if they see any activity around vacant structures, authorities said.
