Fireworks Near Me: Prince George's County’s July 4th, 2022

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Cities and counties across the country continue to bring back many of the traditional Independence Day activities that were either canceled or modified the last two years. July 4 is just around the corner, so it's time to find out what Fourth of July fireworks and festivities are going on near you in 2022.

We have all the fireworks shows, parades and festivals happening in and around Prince George's County so you can start planning now.

Laurel's 43rd Independence Day Celebration

This event will be held July 2. Below is a schedule of events for the day:

  • 2 p.m. - Parade with judging stand on Domer Avenue
  • 2 to 5 p.m. - Car Show Begins
  • 5:15 p.m. - Music by Oracle
  • 7 p.m. - Grand opening, flag raising, pledge and National Anthem & Invocation
  • 9 p.m. - Message from Mayor Craig A. Moe and Laurel City Council
  • 9:15 p.m. - Fireworks from the lake

There will be no backpacks/bookbags, no coolers, no alcohol and no fireworks allowed. There also will be no pets allowed.

Prior to the parade, 6th Street from Route 198 West Bound to Main Street will close at noon for parade contestants to begin line up. All other roads along the route will close just before 1:30 p.m. in preparation for the parade:

  • The parade route begins at 6th and Montgomery Streets.
  • Heads east on Montgomery Street.
  • Turns south on 4th Street.
  • Crosses over Routes 198 East Bound and West Bound.
  • Passes the Judges’ Stand at Domer Avenue (best place for viewing).
  • Disperses to the right onto Cherry Lane.

The following will be the times and street closures for the fireworks:

  • At 10 a.m., eastbound Cherry Lane from Ashford Boulevard to Laurel Place will close for the arrival of the fireworks and will remain closed for the rest of the day.
  • At 2:30 p.m., West Bound Cherry Lane from Laurel Place to Ashford Boulevard will close. This closure is required by the state, county and city fire marshal’s offices due to potential fallout from the fireworks display at Laurel Lake.
  • Westbound and eastbound Cherry Lane will remain closed after the fireworks until it has been policed for fallout debris.

Six Flags July 4th Celebration

Six Flags America in Bowie will offer a fireworks show on July 3 and July 4 at dusk.


2022 Bladensburg Fireworks Show

The 2022 Bladensburg fireworks show will be held July 1 starting at 6 p.m. at Bladensburg Waterfront Park. The free event runs until 9:30 p.m. with live performances, food trucks, face-painting, fireworks and more.


Bowie Baysox

There will be fireworks July 2 and July 3 after the Bowie Baysox games in honor of Independence Day.


Greenbelt's Independence Day Celebration

The fireworks display in Greenbelt will take place at Buddy Attick Lake Park, 555 Crescent Road, Monday at approximately 9 p.m. and will last 20 to 30 minutes. A Greenbelt officer will be at the main gate in addition to having officers on foot patrol throughout the area. The Greenbelt Citizen Emergency Response Team will have a tent nearby serving as a hydration station including cooling chairs and provide limited first aid assistance.

Alcoholic beverages are not allowed at Buddy Attick Park. All forms of fireworks, including firecrackers, snakes, sparklers and bottle rockets, are prohibited by law in Greenbelt and throughout Prince George’s County. Anyone found in possession of fireworks will be subject to arrest. Penalties include fines up to $1,000 and/or six months in jail.


Fireworks on the National Mall in D.C.

Fireworks will be launched from both sides of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. The 17-minute display will be held July 4 starting at 9:09 p.m.


42nd Annual Capitol Fourth Concert

The 42nd annual Capitol Fourth concert on PBS will begin at 8 p.m. ET at the National Mall with country music singer and four-time Grammy-nominee Mickey Guyton serving as host of the event from D.C. Guyton will lead an all-star cast in a patriotic evening of musical performances by top stars from pop, country, R&B, classical and Broadway featuring the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of premier pops conductor Jack Everly. Capping off the concert broadcast on PBS will be live coverage of the fireworks display on the National Mall captured by multiple cameras stationed around the city.
