4-Year-Old Girl Accidentally Shoots Self, Relative Faces Multiple Gun Charges: PGPD

A 4-year-old girl found a loaded ghost gun under a bed and accidentally shot herself, police say. Her relative now faces charges.

CHEVERLY, MD — A 4-year-old girl found a loaded ghost gun under a bed during a game of hide-and-seek and shot herself Sunday night while handling the weapon without a serial number. A relative since has been charged with multiple firearm offenses in connection to the self-inflicted shooting, police say.

The incident happened at an apartment in the 6400 block of Landover Road near 63rd Place around 10:45 p.m. June 2. Prince George's County Police said it appears a round was accidentally discharged and hit the child in the arm. She was hospitalized and her injuries are not life-threatening, police say.

Police have since arrested and charged 20-year-old Jayvon Thomas of Cheverly with possessing the gun and leaving it unsecured.
