Grandson Wins $50K On Outing With Grandma

A grandma who loves to play the lotto encouraged her grandson to play - he ended up winning $50K.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A grandmother and grandson out for the day decided to buy a Pick 5 ticket. As luck would have it, the grandson won $50,000.

The pair stopped at Modern Liquors in Temple Hills so the grandmother could play her favorite lottery games. She urged her grandson to play, too, so he placed a $1 straight bet Pick 5 game for both the midday and evening drawings using a number that’s special to the pair, 81154.

They left the store and spent the rest of the day running errands before heading home. It was later that evening when the player checked his ticket and realized he'd won.

“I checked the numbers using my phone and saw I matched the numbers,” the Prince George's County resident told lottery officials when the two claimed the prize at Lottery headquarters. “But I don’t play, so I asked my grandma to double check it for me.”

“I looked at that ticket and told him, ‘You got it.’” his grandmother added. “You won $50,000.”
