Woman Attacks 83-Year-Old Woman With Hatchet Outside Senior's Home: Laurel Police

LAUREL, MD — A 54-year-old Laurel woman has been charged with first-degree and second-degree assault after police say she used a hatchet to attack an 83-year-old Laurel resident on Valentine's Day.

According to the Laurel Police Department, the 83-year-old victim arrived at the Laurel Police Station for help. She told officers she had been hit multiple times outside her home in the 30 block of Orchard Towne Court. She was able to escape and get into her vehicle.

Officers tended to the victim while waiting for an ambulance.

The victim was able to give police a detailed description of her attacker. That, along with other tips, led officers to Wendy Yvette Shabazz, who was arrested.

The hatchet was recovered during the arrest.
