Helicopter Falls Off Transport Vehicle On Capital Beltway Outer Loop

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A helicopter fell off a transport vehicle Tuesday, landing in the travel lanes of the Capital Beltway Outer Loop and causing a disruption to traffic.

The privately owned helicopter slipped off the transport truck along Interstate 495 at the Branch Avenue (Route 5) ramp. The incident briefly closed the right merge lane and shoulder lane, which reopened a few hours later, according to data from the Maryland Department of Transportation.

A spokesperson with Prince George's County Fire Department told ABC7 that no units were dispatched and Maryland State Police reported that the helicopter was put back on the trailer.
