Hurricane Joaquin May Delay Philadelphia Eagles v Washington Redskins

Hurricane Joaquin is threatening to bring torrential rain, wind, flooding and now a potential disruption of Sunday’s football schedule.

CBS Sports reports that NFL officials are currently assessing the storm’s impact on Sunday’s game between the Eagles and Redskins at FedEx Field. Postponing the game is an option, the report says.

The game would likely be made up in Week 8, according to CBS Sports. A decision about whether to cancel the game will reportedly be made by Saturday, when the Eagles are supposed to travel to Washington, D.C.

Hurricane Joaquin’s exact path is still up in the air but most models have it making landfall along the East Coast between North Carolina and New England within the next five days.

The National Hurricane Center and The Weather Channel said the storm could reach the mid-Atlantic region Sunday or early Monday morning.

On Wednesday, Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe declared a State of Emergency for the entire Commonwealth ahead of the storm.

As of Wednesday morning, Hurricane Joaquin was a Category 1 hurricane with winds at 85 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.
