Husband Admits Fatally Stabbing Wife 73 Times: Prosecutor

A Prince George's County man admitted in court Thursday that he killed his wife, stabbing her 73 times during an argument, authorities said.

UPPER MARLBORO, MD — During a court hearing Thursday, 26-year old Erwin Lorenzo Sanchez pleaded guilty to murder for stabbing his wife to death during an argument. After the plea, Sanchez was sentenced to 40 years in prison.

On Jan. 1, 2018, Sanchez and his wife, Lisbet Garcia, 24, had been at a party, where they argued. When they arrived home they continued to argue and Sanchez stabbed her. Police found the victim on the floor of their residence in Brentwood suffering from more than 70 stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.

According to police, a blood-covered Sanchez admitted that he committed the crime as he was being taken into custody.

“While we are pleased with the sentence imposed today, we remain heartbroken for the family of Lisbet Mendez Garcia,” said State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy in a news release. “This case is tragic. We urge victims of domestic violence to come forward so that we can seek justice for them. It is especially important as we continue to mark Domestic Violence Awareness Month that we emphasize the fact that we will do everything in our power to support victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and hold their abusers accountable.”
