State highway officials say southbound I-95 lanes remain closed with a detour taking drivers onto Konterra Drive (south of MD 198) then back onto southbound I-95. Southbound I-95 traffic delays extend about three miles to MD 216, but are likely to increase as rush hour approaches, authorities warn commuters.
The State Highway Administration lifted all construction work and lane closures on nearby routes to handle additional traffic from the detours.

As of 2:30 p.m., crews had uprighted the tanker and transferred the fuel to another vehicle. The Maryland Department of Environment is on site and in charge of cleanup and containment of the fuel that leaked from the tanker. The cleanup is likely to extend into the afternoon rush hours.
Highway officials suggest southbound US 29, MD 295 or US 1 as alternate routes and allowing additional travel time for the extra traffic volumes. As soon as the cleanup is complete, SHA will reopen the interstate to traffic.
