Ice Skating Rink Opens July 9 For Refreshing Summer Fun In Bowie

Skaters can attend camp, play broomball, participate in private or group lessons, attend Recess on Ice or skate during open public skate.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — The Bowie Ice Arena will be reopening July 9 for summer ice skating, summer camps, group lessons, Recess on Ice, Skate in the Shade, 2 for 1 Tuesdays, youth skate and broomball nights.

Recess on Ice is for kids ages 18 months through five years and features on-ice fun and games. These sessions will be held:

• July 20, 11:15 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.
• July 27, 12 - 1:30 p.m.
• August 10, 12 - 1:30 p.m.
• August 17, 12 - 1:30 p.m.

In addition to discounted skating days, the ice arena has several public skating sessions each week and special family public sessions with discounts for families. Discounts also are available for city of Bowie residents as well as groups during public skating sessions.

There are skating aids available on a first come, first served basis for those new to ice skating. Frequent skater cards are available for 5, 10, 20 and unlimited admissions for public sessions. One pass per person. Passes are valid July through April and can be purchased at the Bowie Ice Arena.

Group lessons and classes are offered for all ages and levels. During July and August, the ice arena holds skating camps for children as young as three years of age through 15 years of age, at all levels. Skaters enjoy on-ice instruction, on-ice games/music, off-ice games and crafts. Campers perform in an end-of-year show for parents. Half day camps are offered for 3- to 8-year-olds and full day camps for 6- to 13-year-olds.

The ice arena also has opportunities for advanced skaters to sharpen their skills with specialty training camps for hockey and figure skating. Ice arena coaching staff offer private lessons, which can be arranged by calling 301-809-3090.
