Increase Reported In Armed Robberies Of Citizens At ATMs, Banks: Bowie Police Department
Bowie Police are reporting an increase in citizen armed robberies at ATMs, banks and financial institutions.
BOWIE, MD — A sudden spike in citizen-armed robberies have been detected in Bowie. Police officers recommend residents be extra vigilant when going to a bank, financial institution or ATM.
According to Bowie Police, jugging is the word used to describe when people take cash from a bank or ATM and a suspect follows that person to their next location and steals their money with force or threat of force.
On July 3 around 11:18 a.m., a resident reported an armed robbery at the TD Bank located at 4319 Collington Rd., Bowie.

More than an hour later July 3, a resident reported another armed robbery outside the Truist Bank located at 6106 Laurel Bowie Rd.
On June 28 around 2:58, a third resident reported an armed robbery at Wells Fargo Bank located at 4323 Collington Rd.

Police recommend residents protect themselves by doing the following:
- Be aware of your surroundings - pay attention to anyone observing your activities outside a bank or financial institution.
- Conceal cash - store cash in a discreet manner, in your purse or wallet.
- Vary your routine - change your habits regarding banking or cash withdrawals.
- Secure your automobile - ensure your vehicle is locked, windows closed and valuable sout of sight.
- Report suspicious activity - if you notice something, report it to police.
