Officials Searching For Inmate Mistakenly Released By Prince George's Corrections Depart.

Officers are searching for an inmate mistakenly released by the Prince George's Corrections Department who was involved in a Va. shooting.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — An inmate was accidentally released Jan. 20 from the Prince George's County Department of Corrections.

Brian Wordell Morris Jr., 27, was transported to the PGDOC at 2:45 p.m. Jan. 20 on an open warrant for a malicious wounding charge stemming from Alexandria, Va. According to the police department, he was "erroneously released" more than an hour later at 4:03 p.m.

The Department of Corrections’ Office of Professional Responsibility and Legal Affairs is investigating the incident. Multiple jurisdictions are working to locate Morris.

Morris Jr., 27, of Alexandria, is the suspect involved in a Jan. 15 shooting in the 4600 block of Duke Street. ALX Now reported that the suspect shot the boyfriend of his child's mother. Police say a 22-year-old man was shot but is expected to recover.

Alexandria Police arrested Morris Friday with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force. That same day, he was released from jail. It was unclear if Morris was being held in Prince George's County to await extradition to Alexandria.
