July 4th Fireworks Show Canceled In College Park, Parade Still Planned
College Park city officials have canceled the fireworks show held in partnership with the University of Maryland.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Citing the pandemic's "continued impact on the supply chain," the city of College Park and the University of Maryland has canceled their annual Independence Day Fireworks and Concert.
"We apologize for any inconvenience and anticipate the return of the event in July 2023," the city announced on its website.
However, the city still plans to hold its first Fourth of July parade at 11 a.m. on Rhode Island Avenue. The city noted it's still looking for local groups and organizations to participate. Click here for details and an application.

College Park officials told WUSA that the contractor they use to put on the fireworks show couldn't guarantee that it would have all of the necessary supplies or even the employees available to have the show.

Alaina Pitt, president of the North College Park Community Association, told WUSA the cancellation of the fireworks display was "really disappointing."
'It's a big event, but the city is bringing back the Fourth of July parade this year. And I'm really excited for that," Pitt said. "I think there's going to be really good turnout and some fun acts. So it's a focus on a different thing this year. But I think they complement each other. Hopefully in the future we can do both.”
County fire officials reminded residents that all backyard fireworks are illegal in the county.
