Five Kids Ages 1-8 In Serious Condition After Ingesting Unknown Item: Report

HYATTSVILLE, MD — Emergency workers were called to an apartment complex on Edmonston Road in Hyattsville Tuesday shortly before 1:30 p.m. after an adult reported multiple children unable to wake up from their nap.

Four kids were inside the apartment. When WUSA spoke with fire officials, they confirmed that the kids had ingested an unknown substance. It is unclear when the kids took the substances or who found them, WUSA reported.

All the kids involved are 8 years old and younger, including a 1-year-old. A total of five children were taken to a nearby hospital, emergency workers said. The woman who called 911 told WUSA that four children and their mother rent a room from her. The children were hospitalized with serious injuries, WUSA reported.
