Kosher Concession Stand Makes Debut At Jewish Community Day Event
Chabad of Bowie will set up a kosher concession stand Sunday at the Chesapeake Baysox Jewish Community Day at the ballfield.
BOWIE, MD — As part of the Chesapeake Baysox Jewish Community Day at the ballfield, Chabad of Bowie will set up a kosher concession stand serving up authentic kosher deli foods for everyone to try.
Rabbi Eli Baron with the Chabad of Bowie told Patch that members of the local community have been asking for some time now, "Why isn't there a kosher deli in Bowie?"
The perfect time to share kosher foods with the community would be at the Jewish Community Day at the ballpark, leaders decided.

The kosher concession stand will be set up on the concourse at the ballpark and feature a menu of classic Jewish favorites. Baseball fans can enjoy a Moses in the Basket, a crispy latke, a slice of deli roll, a fancy eggroll or a traditional potato knish.
As far as the kosher foods that will be available, Baron told Patch that Moses was placed in a basket on the river to be saved from the Pharaoh. Therefore, “Moses in a Basket” is a hot dog "lovingly wrapped in pastry dough and sprinkled with seeds."

"A latke is a delicious potato pancake fried in oil, traditionally eaten on Chanukah, to commemorate the miracle of the jug of oil, which lasted for eight days," Baron told Patch.
Baron told Patch his favorite food that will be available Sunday happens to be the egg roll. All of the food will be prepared by a health department-certified facility, Baron noted.
"Whether these are foods you grew up eating or something you’re trying for the first time, it’s a chance to enjoy the tastes and flavors of Jewish tradition without leaving Bowie," Baron said.
Chesapeake Baysox Jewish Community Day will be Sunday and offers families, friends and neighbors to enjoy a day at the ballpark, regardless of their background, Baron noted.
"You shouldn’t always have to drive elsewhere to find Jewish experiences—or even a good knish. Events like Jewish Community Day give us an opportunity to celebrate Jewish identity openly and proudly while sharing it with the broader community around us," Baron said. "And what better way to bring people together than over good food? We hope the kosher concession stand will add a taste of Jewish tradition to the day and give everyone something delicious to enjoy along the way."
Gates open at noon and the kosher concession stand will be ready for fans. The game starts at 1 p.m. Tickets can be bought here.
Prince George's Stadium, home of the Bowie Baysox minor league baseball team, is located at 4101 Crain Highway, Bowie.
