Library Program Designed To Assist Prince George's County Refugees, Immigrants
From English classes to citizenship study groups, the PGCMLS has launched the "Immigrant Proud" program to help refugees and immigrants.
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — In support of the more than 200,000 immigrants and refugees who live and work in Prince George's County, the Prince George's County Memorial Library System has launched the "Immigrant Proud" program designed to highlight the resources available to them within the county.
“Immigrant Proud” showcases curated collections of books and online resources to support language learning and legal needs, free citizenship bundles to support preparation for citizenship exams, as well as programs like English classes for English Language Learners, Kids Achieve Club virtual tutoring for students in grades first through fourth, Leamos literacy classes for Spanish speakers, citizenship study groups and language conversation clubs for informal practice. An overview of resources is available at the library’s new “Immigrant Proud” webpage (pgcmls.info/immigrantproud) and on displays in branch libraries. Programs are posted to the library’s event calendar (pgcmls.info/events) up to two months in advance.
A limited number of free citizenship bundles are available for customers at all PGCMLS branch libraries while supplies last. Individuals may request a bundle at information desks at one per customer. Study materials in the bundles may also be accessed online through uscis.gov/citizenship using any of the library computers. Bundles include the following resources:
- “Welcome to the United States: A Guide for New Immigrants”
- “Preparing for the Naturalization Test: A Pocket Study Guide”
- Vocabulary Flash Cards for the Naturalization Test
- Erasable Marker
