Lotto Ticket Thefts Leads To Charges Against Upper Marlboro Man

An Upper Marlboro man faces charges after authorities say he stole lotto tickets from two stores.

UPPER MARLBORO, MD — A Prince George's County man has been arrested in connection to two separate lottery ticket thefts that happened in Waldorf, worth upwards of $10,000 in stolen winnings.

Timothy Lewis Jr., 25, of Upper Marlboro, has been charged with two counts of theft between $1,500 and $25,000 following incidents reported in late February and early March 2026 in Charles County.

According to court documents, the first incident happened Feb. 26 when officers with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office were called to the Sunoco gas station located along Crain Highway in Waldorf for a reported theft of lottery tickets. A store employee told officers the suspect entered the store and asked for a pack of Black & Mild cigars. When the employee turned away to grab the cigars, the suspect grabbed a display containing lottery tickets and ran out of the store, according to The Bay Net.

The Maryland Lottery Commission contacted the police department about several stolen tickets that had been redeemed. According to authorities, some of the tickets were cashed at a convenience store in Prince George's County. Investigators collected those tickets for evidence and were processed for fingerprints. Latent prints matched Lewis.

A second theft happened March 2 at the Foods In grocery store located on Mattawoman Drive in Waldorf. Employees told deputies that a suspect grabbed lottery tickets from the counter before leaving the store. Surveillance footage showed the suspect leaving the area in a white Toyota RAV4, police said.
