Mall Shooting Suspect Charged With Murder: Prince George's Police

The suspect wanted in a shooting at the Mall at Prince George's in Hyattsville has been arrested and faces murder charges, police say.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — The suspect wanted for a fatal shooting inside the Mall in Prince George's in Hyattsville was taken into custody Thursday morning, police said in a news release. Stephon Edward Jones of Washington, D.C., has been charged with the murder of 20-year-old Darrion Herring of Hyattsville.

On Aug. 18, officers with the city of Hyattsville Police Department and the Prince George’s County Police Department responded to the 3500 block of East-West Highway for a shooting. Herring was found in the food court at the mall with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene, a police report said.

Investigators said Jones shot and killed Herring during an argument. Jones has been charged with first- and second-degree murder and related charges.

With the assistance of the Metropolitan Police Department, he was taken into custody in Washington, D.C. He remains in custody there pending extradition to Prince George’s County.
