Man Arrested Months After Greenbelt Restaurant Shooting

GREENBELT, MD — A man wanted in connection to a January shooting inside a Greenbelt restaurant was arrested this week after avoiding capture for months, police said.

Karim Joshua Thomas was taken into custody Monday by the Greenbelt Police Department's Special Assignment Team.

Police said Thomas was wanted in connection to a Jan. 5 shooting inside the Hook & Reel restaurant. No one was hit by gunfire, according to the department.

Detectives obtained a warrant for Thomas' arrest in February, but police said he had not been located until this week.

Thomas had a loaded handgun and controlled dangerous substances on him when he was arrested, police said.

Greenbelt police credited the arrest to the officers involved in the investigation and apprehension.

“The safe apprehension of this armed and dangerous individual reflects the teamwork and professionalism of our officers,” the department said. “We’re extremely proud of the work they do everyday to protect our community.”
