A Hagerstown man has been found guilty by jury of the first-degree murder of a 20-year-old man.
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A Prince George’s County jury has found 20-year-old Kevin Coleman guilty on all charges for the first-degree murder of Blake White, 20, in December 2021. Coleman, of Hagerstown, faces life in prison and will be sentenced April 14.
After a nine-day trial and more than two hours of deliberation, Coleman was convicted of first-degree murder, two counts of use of a handgun in a crime of violence/felony and related offenses.
On Dec. 16, 2021, shortly after 6 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Stoney Creek Lane and Grayden Lane in Brandywine for a reported shooting. Officers found a BMW that had crashed into a home on Grayden Lane. White was inside the car in the driver’s seat with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital where he died the following day. No one inside the home was injured.
Another victim, Trenton Talley, who was with the deceased victim at the time of the shooting, ran from the scene and was able to wave down a responding ambulance at the intersection of Route 301 and Brandywine Road. When interviewed by the police, he stated that he and White arrived at the location of the shooting to return a debit card to another individual.

The investigation revealed that Coleman, along with three other individuals, arrived at the location in a separate vehicle to get the debit card. Interviews with Talley and the three individuals present during the shooting established that the defendant exited his vehicle with a firearm. After pointing the gun at Talley, he walked up to the BMW driven by White demanding from Talley several times if the driver of the BMW was armed. When Talley told him no multiple times, White began to pull away at which time the defendant fires 17 shots at the fleeing vehicle. The victim, White, sustained a fatal gunshot wound to his head.
At the time of the shooting, the defendant was on probation for a previous robbery.

“I am pleased that the victim’s family and the community are getting justice for this tragic and senseless murder of young man who had his entire future ahead of him. The defendant’s intentional actions prove that he does not deserve to be in society, and I am grateful that the jury allowed us to hold him accountable,” said State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy. “I commend the prosecutor on this case and the victim witness advocate for their dedication and hard work. Additionally, this prosecution would not be possible without the diligence of the Prince George’s County Police Department and the cooperation of the witnesses who came to testify.”
