Man Indicted In Deadly Bowie Town Center Beating: Police

A grand jury has indicted the man after an argument in a shopping center parking lot turned deadly.

BOWIE, MD -- Police have charged a man with murder in connection with the beating death of a man in the parking lot of a shopping center in Bowie last month.

A grand jury indicted 31-year-old Thomas Hughes of Bowie with murder after he used a baseball bat to beat 21-year-old Nicholas Keys of Bowie in the parking lot of Bowie Town Center late in the afternoon on June 4, according to a report from the Prince George's County Police Department.

"The investigation reveals the suspect and victim got into a dispute over a damaged car door in the parking lot," the report states. "Detectives learned the suspect attacked the victim with a baseball bat. The Bowie Police Department arrested Hughes who was initially charged with assault."

The victim died three days later, and an autopsy determined that the cause was head injuries and multiple facial fractures, the report states.

A grand jury has indicted Hughes with murder, and he is being held without bond.
