Man Killed Woman as She Walked to the Metro in Capitol Heights: Police
30-year-old Christopher Carl Green faces murder charges after police say a robbery attempt turned into murder.

CAPITOL HEIGHTS, MD — Police arrested a man accused of gunning down a middle-aged woman in Capitol Heights earlier this month as she walked near the Metro.
Police say 30-year-old Christopher Carl Green fatally shot 51-year-old Jan Cotto as she walked near her home, possibly to the Metro station to head to work, according to a report from the Prince George's County Police Department.
Police were called to the 200 block of Zelma Avenue at around 11 p.m. April 6 to a report of a shooting, and found Cotto suffering from gunshot wounds. She died later at the hospital.

Police think Green was attempting to rob Cotto, and charged him with first and second degree murder, as well as related charges, according to the report.
He remains in the custody of the Department of Corrections without bond.
