Man Spooked by Cop Cars, Dies After Crashing Stolen Minivan: PG County Police

Police say they were looking for the minivan, but never actually pursued the man.

CAPITOL HEIGHTS, MD — A man driving a stolen minivan was spooked after seeing police cruisers, causing him to collide with one of them and then with a telephone pole, which killed the driver, police say.

A report from the Prince George's County Police Department states that 26-year-old Coree Parks of Northwest D.C. was driving in a stolen minivan at around 9:15 p.m. when he noticed marked police cruisers in the area, which were actively looking for the minivan.

Parks fled the area, driving over a median strip at the intersection of Silver Hill Road and Marlboro Pike and then striking a marked police car, disabling the cruiser, the report states.

Parks kept driving, and then lost control of the minivan, colliding with a telephone pole at the intersection of Walker Mill Road and Addison Road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say that no officers pursued him at any point, and a review of dash cam video confirmed this.
