Man Throws Sulfuric Acid On Woman In PG County: Police

The woman, who was the man's roommate, suffered critical injuries in the attack, police say.

HYATTSVILLE, MD -- Police have arrested a man in the unincorporated part of Hyattsville on charges of throwing sulfuric acid on his roommate's face and upper body, critically injuring her, police say.

Police responded to the 1000 block of East-West Highway to a report of a roommate dispute at around 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 24, according to a report from the Prince George's County Police Department.

"When they arrived, they discovered the victim suffering from what appear to be chemical burns," the report states. "The victim, an adult female, was rushed to a hospital where she remains in critical condition."

Police arrested 28-year-old Bekre Abdela, who fled the scene but was located two days later and arrested.

"He has admitted his involvement in the attack," the report states. "The motive is under investigation."
