Man Tries to Sell Fake Gold to Off-Duty Cop in Bowie: Police

The officer was off duty and walking back to his car in a shopping center when the man approached him.

BOWIE, MD — Police have arrested a Baltimore man who they say tried to sell fake gold to an off-duty officer in Bowie who was returning to his car after shopping.

Police charged 33-year-old Laurentiun Miclescu with theft by deception after he approached the officer as he was walking to his car in a shopping center parking lot in the 6800 block of Racetrack Road on Monday, according to a report from the Prince George's County Police Department.

"The suspect told the off-duty officer he lost his credit card and offered to sell him gold in exchange for cash," the report states. "The officer knew of an on-going investigation into a fake gold scam in the county and detained the suspect."
