A Maryland man with addresses in two counties has been arrested on federal charges that he stole more than $1million from elderly people via online dating services.
Krist Koranteng, 32, who has addresses in Burtonsville and Laurel, was charged with 11 criminal counts, including conspiracy, mail fraud and wire fraud, according to an Associated Press story on WNEW. He was arrested Thursday.
Prosecutors allege Koranteng searched online dating sites for elderly men and women and initiated romantic relationships with them. He then used false stories and promises to convince the victims to give him money via checks and wire transfer.
