Here's What's Open, Closed In Prince George's County On Memorial Day 2022

Wondering if your trash will be picked up on Memorial Day or TheBus will be operating? Patch has the answers.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD β€” While many will recognize Memorial Day by spending the day with family and friends, it’s important to note which businesses will be open if you head out that day to shop or grab a bite to eat.

While the true meaning of the day is to remember, many also view it as the unofficial start of summer and spend the day gathered with friends and family.

Many local facilities and government offices will close on Memorial Day in remembrance of the men and women who served and gave their lives for the United States.

Here’s a look at what’s closed in Prince George's County on Memorial Day:

  • Animal Services Facility at 3750 Brown Station Road
  • Brown Station Road Sanitary Landfill
  • Brown Station Road Public Convenience Center
  • Electronics Recycling Acceptance Site located at the Brown Station Road Sanitary Landfill
  • Household Hazardous Waste Acceptance Site located at the Brown Station Road Sanitary Landfill
  • Missouri Avenue Solid Waste Acceptance and Recycling Center
  • Prince George’s County Organics Composting Facility
  • Prince George’s County Materials Recycling Facility
  • Bulky Trash Collection by appointment only
  • Residential organics and yard trim collections (resume June 6)
  • Post offices
  • Most banks
  • Government offices
  • Courts
  • Prince George's County Memorial Library System (closed May 29-30)
  • Prince George's County Public Schools

Scheduled trash collections will resume Tuesday. PGC311 will be closed Monday and resume regular operations Tuesday.

TheBus, a public transit service operated by the Prince George’s County Department of Public Works and Transportation, will not operate Monday. Regular COVID-19 operations of TheBus will resume Tuesday. The County’s Call-A-Bus, PGC Link and Call-A-Cab services, including dialysis transportation, will not operate Monday. Regular COVID-19 operations of the Call-A-Bus, PGC Link and Call-A-Cab services will resume Tuesday.

Laurel's department of public works will be closed Monday. Due to the closure, trash and recycling schedules are being altered in Laurel:

  • Monday trash and recycling pickup will be on Tuesday (residential & commercial.
  • Tuesday trash and recycling will be on Wednesday (residential only)
  • Tuesday commercial rrash pickups remain the same.
  • Wednesday, Thursday and Friday trash and recycling pickups are unchanged.
  • There will be no bulky item or yard debris pickups Wednesday.
