Men Firing Guns at Beach Targeted Resident Who Complained: Police

Men from Bowie, Hyattsville, Crownsville and Glen Dale face assault and drug charges after the confrontation.

A man who lives near a Crownsville beach where four men were reportedly shooting BB guns and a .22 caliber gun told police the suspects shot at him when he complained about the gunfire.

Anne Arundel County Police were called to the dispute Monday at the community beach located at Pullen Drive and Whitneys Landing Drive in Crownsville. Four men were reportedly shooting at the water; a man who lives across the creek from the beach shouted at the men to stop firing. In response, one of the men allegedly pointed the gun at the resident and fired multiple shots; the homeowner hid behind a tree, then returned to his home and called police.

No injuries were reported.

Officers found multiple empty .22 bullet casings on the beach. After they searched the suspects and their vehicle, police said found marijuana and drug-processing equipment.

All four suspects were charged with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, illegal discharging of firearm, possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

The suspects charged are:

  • Karim Anthony Mitchell, 23, of Hyattsville
  • Kyle Thomas O’Dowd, 18, of Crownsville
  • Brian Jamal Middlebrooks, 26, of Bowie
  • Stephen Diego Cousins, 25, of Glen Dale
