Metro Train Evacuated After Fire Reported in PG County
The train was safely evacuated at the Landover station Friday morning.

LANDOVER, MD — Passengers on an Orange Line train at the Landover station have safely evacuated after a fire was reported under the Metro car Friday morning.
Prince George's County Fire/EMS spokesman Mark Brady tweeted at 7:28 a.m. that units were on their way to the Landover Metro station on Pennsey Drive over a report of a fire under a Metro car at platform level.
Shortly after, Brady said that the fire had been extinguished before units arrived, and the train had safely been evacuated. The power for the third rail was gone prior to the investigation, he added.

WMATA took over the investigation and developed plans to move the train, Brady said, adding later that it may have been a brake issue. The train was moved to the New Carrollton Yard.
Metro tweeted that the Orange Line was single-tracking between New Carrollton and Cheverly due to a "disabled train," with delays in both directions. The single-tracking ended a little while after, with residual delays in both directions.
