Mother Admits She Smothered Children: Police
The 24-year-old Cheverly woman faces two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of her kids, ages 1 and 3.

A Cheverly mother has been arrested for allegedly smothering her two young children Sunday in the family’s home, according to the Prince George’s County Police Department.
Sonya Spoon, 24, of the 6200 block of Forest Road has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of one-year-old Ayden Spoon and three-year-old Kayla Thompson.
During a Monday news conference, police offered additional details about what happened in the house, reports WMAR TV. Police were called to the home on Forest Road about 2:15 a.m. Sunday for the report of two unconscious children.

The children were rushed to a local hospital where they both died. Ayden was declared dead at 2:55 a.m., the station reports, while Kayla was declared dead at 6:55 a.m.
Sonya Spoon was taken into custody on the scene after she admitted to suffocating her children. She is in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no bond status, police say.

The official cause of their deaths is pending.
The motive is under investigation.
