Motorcycle Driver Dies In Prince George's County Collision: Police

A 45-year-old man died Wednesday night in a collision after he was ejected from his motorcycle on US-Rt.1 in Beltsville.

BELTSVILLE, MD — Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal collision that killed a New Carrollton man Wednesday evening on US-Rt.1 at Prince Georges Avenue in Beltsville.

Officers responded to the area for a crash involving a motorcycle and vehicle shortly after 6:30 p.m. The motorcycle driver — later identified as Jermaine Jackson, 45, of New Carrolton — was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.

Preliminary investigation revealed the driver of a Toyota Corolla was traveling northbound on US-Rt.1 and attempted a left turn onto Prince Georges Avenue while the motorcycle driver was traveling southbound.

The driver of the Toyota turned in front of the motorcycle, which struck the passenger side of the Toyota. The driver was ejected from the motorcycle and transported to the Prince George’s Hospital Center.

The driver of the Toyota — identified as Nelroy Fernandes, 23, of Beltsville — was not injured, police said.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation, but police said it seems that failure to give full time and attention and failure to yield the right of way were contributing factors in this collision.
