Motorcyclist Dies After Smashing Into Parked Truck in District Heights

The accident is the latest in a series of deaths involving motorcyclists in PG County.

DISTRICT HEIGHTS — A motorcyclist has died two weeks after he collided with a parked truck on the side of the road, the latest in a string of deaths in the county involving motorcyclists.

Phillip Brooks, 59, of Brandywine died of his injuries Sunday. Back on Sept. 3, he was riding his motorcycle in the 7200 block of Beltz Drive in District Heights at around 3:30 p.m. when he "struck a truck parked alongside of the roadway," according to a report from the Prince George's County Police Department. The truck was unoccupied at the time.

It's the latest in a series of fatal accidents for motorcyclists this summer.

In mid July, a motorcyclist died after losing control of his motorcycle in District Heights. Just a few days later, a Fort Washington man died after crashing his motorcycle on Route 210 in Accokeek.

On July 29, a motorcyclist in Capitol Heights collided with a car that was making a left turn at an intersection. A few days after that, two people died and a third person was trapped after a sport utility vehicle collided with a motorcycle in Bowie. And on Aug. 14, a motorcyclist died in Bowie after colliding with a pickup truck on westbound Route 50, throwing the rider from the motorcycle and shutting down the highway for two hours.
