Native American Day 2022: What's Open, Closed In Prince George's County
Here's what's open and closed in Prince George's County for Native American Day.
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD β Monday happens to be Native American Day in Prince George's County, a day formerly known as Columbus Day until 2020. County offices will be closed Monday and Prince George's County Public Schools students do not have school Monday.
The Prince George's County Memorial Library System also will be closed Monday.
In 2019, the Prince George's Countyβs Legislative Branch shared the following: βThe native and indigenous peoples of Prince George's County and the United States have significantly contributed to the rich fabric of history and culture we celebrate in our communities and should be rightly recognized. Whether it is the Piscataway-Conoy tribe in the County or the many Native American tribes indigenous to every region of our nation, recognizing their place as the 'First Americans' is long overdue.β

TheBus, a public transit service operated by the Prince Georgeβs County Department of Public Works and Transportation, will operate Monday except for Route 51X, which operates only in downtown Upper Marlboro during peak periods when the courthouse is open.
Regular operations on Route 51X will resume Tuesday. The countyβs Call-A-Bus and PGC Link services, including dialysis transportation, will not operate Monday. Regular operations of the Call-A-Bus and PGC Link services will resume Tuesday.

PGC311 will be closed Monday and will resume regular operations Tuesday. However, residents can still submit service/issue requests online at www.countyclick311.com/
Organics collections will happen in Prince George's County Monday, which includes food scraps and yard trim. There won't be any scheduled bulky trash pickups for white goods, appliances or scrap tires Monday. There won't be any change to curbside bulky, recycling and trash collection either.
City of Laurel offices, including the passport office will be closed Monday in honor of what they call Indigenous Peoples Day.
The Laurel department of public works will be picking up trash and recycling on an alternative schedule:
- Monday Trash and Recycling pickup will be on Tuesday (residential and commercial).
- Tuesday Trash and Recycling pickup will be on Wednesday (residential only).
- Tuesday Commercial Trash and Recycling pickups are unchanged.
- Wednesday Composting pickups are unchanged.
- Wednesday, Thursday and Friday Trash and Recycling pickups are unchanged.
- There will be no Bulky Item or Yard Debris Pickups this week.
City of Bowie offices will be open Monday and trash collection will follow its normal schedule.
