NBA Stars To Speak Wednesday At Prince George's Library, Discuss New Book

NBA stars Tony Massenburg and Walt Williams will highlight a new book about their basketball careers and Len Bias' impact on them.

PRINE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A book discussion with NBA stars Tony Massenburg and Walt Williams will be held Wednesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Oxon Hill Branch Library where they'll will discuss their experiences playing basketball at the University of Maryland and Len Bias's impact on their lives and careers will be hosted by the Prince Geoge's County Memorial Library System.

The book discussion also will be shown live on the library's YouTube channel. Registration is required.

"Lessons from Lenny: The Journey Beyond a Shooting Star'' is a book about one of the most representative players of the Maryland area in the '80s.

Bias was born and raised in Prince George’s County and graduated from Northwestern High School in Hyattsville. He attended Maryland University where he played on the basketball team and was the leader of the Atlantic Coast Conference. He was inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame 35 years after his death from a cocaine overdose two days after being picked by the Boston Celtics.

Massenburg played basketball with his childhood idol at the University of Maryland in 1985. During an episode of the Wizards podcast, Massenburg said that Bais was "the greatest Maryland Terrapin basketball player of all time."

Williams has referred to Massenburg as an "essential part of his career." While being a Prince George's high school All-Star, he wanted to "be like Len." Williams was inducted into the University of Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame in 2003 and the Washington, DC Sports Hall of Fame in 2018. Williams talks Terps for the Maryland Sports Radio Network and is a guest analyst for NBC Sports Washington.
