BOWIE, MD — A vintage game in Bowie will honor the 100th anniversary of the Negro National League, the first professional baseball organization for Black players. The competition is slated for Aug. 7 at Prince George's Stadium, home of the Bowie Baysox.

The centennial was actually last year, but the coronavirus pandemic disrupted plans for a ceremony. This year also marks the 88th anniversary of the East-West All-Star Game for Negro League athletes, who were still prohibited from playing in the MLB.

Former MLB, minor league and college ballplayers will take the field in retro uniforms to recognize this history. The Negro League Legends Hall of Fame is hosting the game.
