New Elementary School Building To House Up To 850 Students

School officials and community leaders recently broke ground on a new elementary school building in the Prince George's school district.

GREENBELT, MD — School officials recently broke ground on a new 103,000-square-foot elementary school designed to accommodate up to 850 prekindergarten through 5th grade students.

Springhill Lake Elementary School, located at 6060 Springhill Dr., will feature 43 general education classrooms and six specialized Criterion Referenced Instruction classrooms designed to support students with special needs.

Built to meet at least Silver certification standards under LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design), the school will incorporate sustainable design and energy-efficient systems, including a high-performance building envelope and advanced HVAC and lighting systems, officials shared.
