New Health Care Center Will Open Next Week In Bowie

A new health care facility will open next week in Bowie. The building will house gynecologists, pharmacists, radiologists and other doctors.

BOWIE, MD — A new health care facility will open in Bowie on Aug. 16. The site, named the Kaiser Permanente Bowie Fairwood Medical Center, will be home to professionals specializing in:

  • Primary care
  • Behavioral health
  • Obstetrics and gynecology
  • Allergy
  • Pharmacy
  • Laboratory
  • Radiology and imaging

"During the COVID-19 pandemic, we witnessed the importance of access to both physical and mental health services," stated Ruth Williams-Brinkley, president of Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic states. "We are proud to expand our Kaiser Permanente delivery system with the opening of this modern, health care center that brings an array of physical and mental health services closer to our members in Prince Georges County."

The 45,558 square-foot building will be Kaiser Permanente's fifth location in the county and its 34th in the region. The latest addition is situated at 5400 Hillmeade Road.

The nonprofit health care network plans to open five other nearby facilities in the next 18 months. The Maryland sites will be in Friendship Heights, Lutherville-Timonium and Hyattsville. The Virginia locations are slated for Springfield and Caton Hill.

Kaiser Permanente has 182,600 members in Prince George’s County, which is up 80,000 from 2008. The Bowie center will serve 10,000 members, planners estimated.

"We know when patients get their care from us, they live longer, better lives,” added Dr. Richard McCarthy, executive medical director for Kaiser Permanente. "We are thrilled to expand our practice in Prince George’s County so that those who live or work near Bowie will now have even easier access to our outstanding Permanente physicians."
