New Mayor, Councilmembers Elected in Hyattsville; Commissioner Chosen In Upper Marlboro

A new mayor and councilmembers have been elected in Hyattsville while a new commissioner was chosen in Upper Marlboro Tuesday night.

Polls closed Saturday afternoon​ in the special election to replace Patrick Wojahn, 47, as mayor of College Park who was arrested and charged with 56 counts relating to possession and distribution of child pornography.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — A new mayor and councilmembers have been elected in Hyattsville. They will take their oath of office at a public ceremony June 5 at 6 p.m. at city hall. Results are unofficial until certified by the board of supervisors of elections.

The unofficial results of the 2023 city election are:

  • Mayor: Robert Croslin, 1,341 votes
  • Ward 1: Joanne Waszczak, 364 votes
  • Ward 2: Danny Schaible, 390 votes
  • Ward 3: Alexander Houck, 95 votes
  • Ward 3: Kareen Redmond, 171 votes
  • Ward 4: Michelle Lee, 142 votes
  • Ward 5: Joseph Solomon, 157 votes

In Upper Marlboro, Linda Pennoyer was voted in as commissioner to fill one vacant seat. She will serve through December 2023 and be sworn in at town hall June 12.

Polls closed Saturday afternoon in the special election to replace Patrick Wojahn, 47, as mayor of College Park. More than 1,000 College Park residents took to the polls. Wojahn was arrested in early March and resigned from his position of mayor the night before he was arrested. He has been charged with 40 counts of possessing child exploitative material and 16 counts of distribution of child exploitative material, according to police.
