Parking Lot Meeting to Settle a Debt in New Carrollton Goes Horribly Wrong: Police

Police have charged a District Heights man with attempted murder after they say he pulled a gun on a man who owed him money.

NEW CARROLLTON — Police have arrested a District Heights man on attempted murder charges after they say he texted another man to meet him over a debt, but then pulled out a gun and shot at him instead.

Police arrested Kayode Familino on an arrest warrant for attempted first degree murder in connection with an incident back on Sept. 9 in New Carrollton, according to a report from the Prince George's County Sheriff.

Familino is accused of sending "several threatening text messages to a person that owed him money" on Sept. 8, and he agreed to meet with the individual at a shopping center in New Carrollton the next day, the report states.

"When the person drove into the parking lot Familino and two unidentified males are alleged to have chased them until they had the person’s vehicle blocked," says the report. "Familino and the two unidentified males are alleged to have shot into the victim’s car, striking two passengers before they were able to drive away."

Sheriff's deputies tracked down Familino at an address in District Heights. When they knocked on the door, they saw him flee through a back door, but were able to capture him and take him into custody, according to the report.

Familino faces charges of attempted first and second degree murder, first and second degree assault, firearm use in a felonious violent crime, handgun on person, handgun in vehicle, malicious destruction of property and reckless endangerment.
