Passenger Dies After Car Strikes Utility Pole in Brandywine
Police are investigating why the driver crossed the center line and crashed into a utility pole.

BRANDYWINE, MD — A man has died after the car he was riding in struck a utility pole in Brandywine, and police are trying to piece together what happened.
James Hawkins, 46, of Northwest D.C. was the passenger in a car headed southbound on Brandywine Road near Gibbons Church Road at around 8:45 p.m. on Feb. 5 when the driver crossed over the center line for an unknown reason and ran into a utility pole, according to a report from the Prince George's County Police Department.
Hawkins was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver appeared to have injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police have not identified the driver. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
