Pedestrian Dies After Crash While Walking In Roadway: Police

A pedestrian died after a car struck him in Laurel, police said. He was walking down the center of the street at night, officers noted.

LAUREL, MD β€” Police said a pedestrian died after a Friday crash in the Prince George's County section of Laurel. Officers identified the victim as 22-year-old Ackeem Patrick Spence.

Authorities mentioned that the accident happened around 2:30 a.m. on Baltimore Avenue, also known as U.S. Route 1, at Mulberry Street. The victim was wearing dark clothing while walking down the street's double yellow line with his back toward oncoming traffic, officials alleged.

A Volkswagen Jetta then struck the man, an incident report clarified. The Maryland State Police noted that the driver stayed on the scene and showed no signs of impairment. Medics declared the victim dead on the scene, the write-up informed.

Troopers reported that they are still investigating.
