Pedestrian Killed in Oxon Hill: Police

A 55-year-old man died after being hit by an SUV while crossing a street in Oxon Hill over the weekend.

OXON HILL, MD -- A 55-year-old man has died after being struck at an intersection in Oxon Hill over the weekend.

Police were called to the intersection of St. Barnabas Road and Virginia Lane at around 8:15 p.m. on April 1 to a report of a collision involving an SUV and a pedestrian, according to a report from the Prince George's County Police Department.

The victim, 55-year-old Willie Bracey of Oxon Hill, died several hours later at the hospital. The driver had injuries that were not life-threatening.

"The preliminary investigation reveals the car was traveling westbound on St. Barnabas Road as the victim was attempting to cross the roadway," the report states. "The driver attempted an evasive maneuver to avoid striking the victim, however was unsuccessful. Preliminarily, investigators believe the victim was not crossing in a crosswalk. The driver of the SUV remained on the scene."
