Pedestrian Struck, Killed in Fairmount Heights: Police

Police say he appeared to be crossing the road, but not in a crosswalk.

FAIRMOUNT HEIGHTS, MD — A man has been pronounced dead after being struck by a pickup truck Wednesday evening.

Police say 61-year-old Jeffrey Matthews of Fairmount Heights was walking in the 5300 block of Sheriff Road when he was hit by a pickup truck at around 8:50 p.m. Sept. 28.

"The preliminary investigation reveals the pickup truck was traveling westbound on Sheriff Road when it struck Matthews as he was attempting to cross the roadway," according to a report from the Prince George's County Police Department. "Preliminarily, it appears Matthews was not in a crosswalk. Matthews was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck remained on the scene."
