PG County Boy Gunned Down While Raking Leaves Dies

Jayz Agnew, 13, was shot in the head while doing yard work in the front yard of his Temple Hills home last week.

TEMPLE HILLS, MD — A 13-year-old boy who was shot last week while raking leaves in the front yard of his Prince George's County home has died, his mother confirmed on an online fundraising page for the family.

Jayz Agnew was shot in the head on Nov. 8 at his home in the 2100 block of Jameson Street in Temple Hills. Following the shooting, he was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Jayz died Friday, his mother Juanita Agnew told NBC Washington. According to Juanita, Jayz's father was doing yard work with him just minutes before the shooting happened.

"His dad was gone, he said, maybe five minutes. Then he heard the gunshots, and he ran out, and then he saw Jayz on the ground," Juanita said.

Juanita also shared news of Jayz's death on a GoFundMe page started to help the family pay for "legal and investigative expenses," according to the page. So far, nearly $33,000 has been raised.

"Our Jayz is a loving gentle child," Juanita wrote prior to the child's death. "His only squabbles are with his little sister Aaliyah over video games."

No arrests have been made in the case, according to NBC. Police also have not provided a potential motive.

Juanita told NBC Washington she also created the GoFundMe page to "bring awareness to gun violence, and make sure Jayz’s murder doesn’t end up a cold case."

"My fear is that.. tomorrow or next week, we’re gonna stop talking about it. And we still have to live on with that loss," Juanita said. "And whoever did it walks free, and that shouldn’t be."
